When I found out I was pregnant with twins, I heard a lot of horror stories about the state of child care in Toronto. From the high cost to the shortage of spaces, I found myself full of anxiety not even six months into my pregnancy - even though I wouldn't need child care for at least 2 years at that point!
I got to work tracking down daycares near my home, and put myself on 10 waitlists before my girls were even born. As my girls approached 18 months, I started calling them all and didn't find a place at any of them. I took a moment to feel sorry for myself, then my husband and took the week to call every daycare between our home and our offices, until we finally found one we could afford. So if you have no idea what you're doing or you haven't been able to find space for your kids yet, don't panic! I'm living proof that even if you're not the most prepared or "ahead of the game" you'll find what you need.
After I gave birth, I joined numerous mothers' groups online, and found that many parents were just as stressed as we were. Toronto's fragmented and disorganized child care system is daunting, especially to first-time parents. The purpose of this site is to share with you the information and knowledge I have gathered on my journey to help make yours a little less stressful.
